The Roaring Tiger at the Zoo

On Wednesday 18 May the year 4, 5 and 6 people went to the Auckland Zoo. We went there to learn about sustainability. My poppa was a parent helper for my group.

First we went to see the tigers. It was pouring with rain so I thought they would not come out. Suddenly I saw something move. My mouth went straight and my eye brows went up. Out leapt a lonely stripy tiger.  I thought he smelt some meat that time because there was some right in front of him. On the other side of a cage was a lady talking to him. I ran over to her. She started to talk to me so my whole group came over to her. She showed all of us a tiger tooth and a chart of whiskers. It had a cat whisker, a lion whisker, a leopard whisker and a tiger whisker. The tiger whisker was the longest one. It is like 2x bigger than an adult’s hand. The lady opened the tiger tooth box to let us touch it. I thought it was going to be rough and lumpy but it was all soft and smooth. Before I touched it I felt my cheeks growing as red as a rose. The tooth was so sharp by the look of it that I didn’t even want to touch it but I did. I measured my hand with the tiger whisker and it was bigger than my hand. On our second lesson at the zoo we sat in front of the tiger cage to learn about tigers. We got asked questions and we had to answer them. When our lesson was over we saw the tiger right against the window of the cage. After that it was time to go.

I had the coolest time ever. I learnt so much that my brain was filled with so many facts about sustainability and animals. It was as cool as ever before. I wish I could go and stay a little longer at the zoo but the bell was about to ring so maybe next time as a school trip.
